Black Asagao-gata Yunomi

This elegant senchawan (sencha cup) has a conical asagao-gata (朝顔形 - morning glory style) shape and is thrown from an iron-rich red clay, glazed in an iron-rich glaze resulting in a matte, almost metallic black. The conical shape presents a wide surface area which is very easy to drink from.

The small size of this cup makes it ideal for enjoying small, concentrated servings of high-grade sencha or gyokuro, or for use as a gongfu cha cup. Please note that due to the organic nature of hand-throwing, glazing, and painting, there are variations between pieces, with each cup being unique in shape and design.
